Third time’s a charm. BUKU 2014 has seriously positioned itself to be one of the most legendary festivals of the year. The BUKU Music & Art Project is unlike any festival you’ve been to before; it’s exclusive (less than 12,000 people), and very special. Just picture yourself with your friends nestled between some railroad tracks, a dilapidated power plant, and the Mississippi River with barges rolling by throughout the night… add to it the New Orleans skyline and Crescent City Connection bridge looming in the distance… yep, that’s #tooBUKU. Speaking of too buku, I still vividly remember catching my first Figure set ever at BUKU 2012. I was raging beside my best friend at the front rail in The Ballroom, as I witnessed him headbang so hard that he broke his nose on the rail. First Figure show, front rail, broken nose, blood, eclectic buku vibes… just take me back.
*SOUND THE HORNS*
One of the most well-rounded (and stacked, forreal) festival lineups to be announced this year, just got even better. Give a big BUKU welcome to: NAS performing Illmatic in its entirety with DJ Premier, Sleigh Bells, Chance The Rapper, Carnage, GRiZ, Clockwork, Dan Deacon, CLASSIXX (Live), Treasure Fingers, Young & Sick and a few more surprises. On top of that, if you can afford a spot on the S.S. BUKU, you’ll catch rare VIP-Only performances from THE GASLAMP KILLER, New Orleans’ own Preservation Hall, Holy Ghost!, Miami Horror, and DJ Soul Sister. (Rumor has it, there will even be a Big Freedia Twerk Lesson.) <— This is seriously a game-changer.
